Postoperative Jaundice

Abstract
This report of 5 cases is our experience with this syndrome of postoperative jaundice following hemorrhagic shock due to traumatic and gastrointestinal bleeding, and a review of the literature in regard to the cause and mechanism..
Although hepatic dysfunction following shock and trauma has been well described in the literature, the large number of factors involved in clinical cases has made determination of the underlying mechanisms difficult.
These 5 cases of postoperative jaundice are consist of patients with 2 ruptured spleen, due to traffic accident, other ruptured spleen and left kidney with stab wound, massive bleeding gastric ulcer and massive anal bleeding due to multiple polyposis of entire colon and rectum, treated with each adequate procedure such as splenectomy, nephrectomy, gastrectomy, and total colectomy with pull through operation.
1. The sex of our cases consist of 3 men and 2 women.
2. The onset of jaundice occurred from 1 to 8 days postoperatively. 3. The jaundice was disappeared from 14 to 21 days postoperatively. 4. The prognosis was good without death in contrast to other reports.
